Really, they did a fine job with adapting Tony Stark’s Marvel background for the film. It wasn’t a huge departure at all. Robert Downey, Jr is GREAT as Stark, and has great chemistry with Gwynneth Paltrow. Gwynneth’s turn as Pepper Pots is superb. This movie could have been just a special effects romp with a weak script, but the writers should really be commended for a tight story line. The scenes in Stark’s lab while he’s developing the suit are priceless. The geeks will be pleased. Also….company jet with stripper poles. Go see the frikkin’ movie!

That brings us to today.
I spent some time at Cafe Coco this afternoon, trying to get some writing done. I was there till the sunlight started getting that golden orange tinge to it, then headed home. I was driving down Charlotte Avenue when I saw a dog laying down in the road. Just laying there panting. I turned around and drove back. I rolle down my window and started whistling for him to try and get him out of the middle of the road.
Then I saw the blood.

he was in the center turn lane of the road, so I pulled my car up a ways in front of him and hit the hazard lights. I got closer and saw a large pool of blood, and blood coming from his nose and mouth. I bent down and tried to calm him. I stroked his back, then a white pickup pulled up. This young mexican got out and walked up. “Jour dog?” he asked. I explained I just found him. He asked if we should call 911, but I told him we needed animal control at least. I looked up and saw a girl on the opposite corner on a cell phone. “Are you calling someone?” she yelled I told her  I was going to get the number for animal control, but she had already tried them and told me they were closed. She did get a number for an emergency vet clinic. I stayed with the dog while our hispanic friend stood out in the lane closest to me and directed traffic. The girl and her friend pulled their car into the turn lane. Mine was full of stuff with no room for the dog. “If you can lift him, I can put him in my car.” she told me. I got an old jacket that didn’t fit me any more and had been just sitting in my car and wrapped the dog in it. He was a black and white mutt, and not very big at all. At this time a woman pulled up and said she saw the dog get hit by an RV. She said she tried to chase down the RV, but got caught at a light. I hefted him up and put him in the young lady’s car. Her friend in the passenger seat had a pained expression on her face as I placed him as gently as i could on the back seat. The girls gave me the address of the clinic, and I’d told them I’d find it and jumped in my car. Lots of things raced through my mind: Did we get to him in time? Who’s going to pay for his treatment? Is Mom going to be cool with a dog as a pet\patient? If i do take him in, what do I name him?
I got lost on the way to the clinic, and called twice for directions. I got there only to be told the dog had to be put down. It was in shock, suffering, and too far gone for help. I retrieved my jacket and thanked the receptionist for the effort. The girls had already left before I got there.

I cried on the way home.

Wherever you are, little guy, I hope you’re romping through green fields, have a thousand hands to pet and love on you, and have an endless supply of cookies.

I find myself listening to this quite a bit.

Those of you who know me are familiar with my admiration for the work of Alan Moore . And if you know anything about Mr. Moore’s work, you know that his epic  “The Watchmen”, has been made into a movie and is due out next year. Well, thanks to Angry Zen Master we have promotional photos released from the film. I found these at Superherohype.com.

I’ll address these one at a time:

The Comedian: Dead fucking on. He looks just like he should, down to the smiley face pin!

Night Owl: This got a decent treatment I thought, but the character looks a little too “in shape”. In the book, Night Owl had been retired a number of years and had a paunch. I liked the idea of an over 30 former crime fighter trying to squeeze back into his old suit. But all-in-all, not bad.

Ozymandias: I understand they have to “sex up” the original concept, and while the suit itself is good, I wish they had left it a shining gold like it was in the comic. It was a nice counter to the dark tone of the world he was in, making him look like a beacon of hope. Not my favorite.

Rorschach: Honestly, how do you fuck up a trench coat, mask, and hat? Now, if they have the effect of his mask’s “spots” changing shape like they do in the book…gravy!

Silk Specter 2: I’m honestly glad they did an overhaul on her costume. This looks like it will be a good treatment.

Now, if you want some of the good poop, then you need to go to the movie site\blog\thing . I am beyond pumped for this.
